The exciting experiment is conducted using one of Tesla's most famous inventions.

YouTuber  The Action Lab is famous for his educational and exhilarating science experiments that demonstrate some of the most obscure science principles. You may remember this episode where  he made a laser microscope using just a drop of water or the time when  he made an actual black mirror.

Now, he is back with a new clip where he attempts to use the air as a wire, based on the work of Nikola Tesla. Tesla wanted to use a bunch of Tesla coils to transmitted power through the air itself, though the project never really got off the ground.

So, The Action Lab set up a Tesla coil and attempted to light a small bulb wirelessly. In the video, he actually finds that the device can light the bulb up to about one foot away. 

He explains how the Tesla coil cannot power a device any further than that because of atmospheric pressure. In order to conduct experiments at longer distances, you'd need to reduce the pressure surrounding the coil to let the plasma flow farther.

How does he do that? How well does the Tesla coil perform under decreased pressure? Why is it that pressure is such an obstacle to electricity transference? Can this experiment be replicated at home? This video answers all these questions and more.
