“If you have a question about something: ask! If you don’t understand something, you can bet there are others who don’t understand something, too.”

Amy Adler, Condé Nast Experiences Director on the U.S. Commerical Team, shares some memorable moments from her 35+ years with Condé, her advice to people just beginning their careers and the historic period she’d most like to visit.

“The Gilded Age: It was a time of tech innovations (the telephone!), the expansion of fashion luxury (Vogue’s Elise Taylor wrote “the more going on, the better”), and the birth of Impressionism (my favorite art movement),” she says.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you find your way to Condé Nast?

I grew up in New York City and went to college in Washington, DC. After college, I was an arts reporter and photographer for a Washington, DC news wire service. I decided to move back to NYC, and having worked two summers at Bride’s and Vogue as a Condé Nast rover (back in the day, a summer intern at CN was called a summer “rover”), I circled back to Condé Nast for a job.

My first job was in Circulation, and from there my trajectory was to Vanity Fair, Mademoiselle, Condé Nast Traveler, House & Garden, Gourmet, Architectural Digest, GQ, Golf Digest, and finally to Experiences.

How do you describe your job to friends and family?

I work with an amazing team to create custom events for company attendees and/or clients, highlighting Condé Nast’s outstanding heritage and ongoing innovations.

You’ve been with the company for over 35 years, do you have any standout memories?

What career highlight are you most proud of?

What advice would you give to young talent just starting out in their careers?

If you have a question about something: ask! If you don’t understand something, you can bet there are others who don’t understand something, too.

If you could go back in time to any historic period, where would you go?

The Gilded Age: It was a time of tech innovations (the telephone!), the expansion of fashion luxury (Vogue’s Elise Taylor wrote “the more going on, the better”), and the birth of Impressionism (my favorite art movement).

What is one thing we would never guess about you?

I trained in Cannes and New York to be a professional ballet dancer.

Tell us your favorite vacation spot.

And lastly, tell us your life story in one word.
