Those responding it is a hoof trimmer for cows (maybe horses, too) include: Jim Marshall, Spencer, West Virginia; Sam Wiford, Wapakoneta, Ohio; Milton Schweitzer, Spartansburg, Pennsylvania; Tom Thorbahn, Vickery, Ohio; Frank Kromer; Jerry Burke, Austinburg, Ohio; David and James Miller, Louisville Ohio; Ed Lauby, Killbuck, Ohio; and Bill Shively, Sunbury, Ohio. Elaine Patterson says the tool is a de-horner. Edward Warren said it reminds him of a lamb docking iron. You heat it very hot prior to clipping the lamb’s tail. The heat sealed up the cut. Jerry Wilson, Malta, Ohio, agrees with Edward on the lamb docking iron. He made a pair when he was 12 years old. Richard Bader, Middletown, New York, said the tool is used to cut a wire fence to correct length. Beth Mills agrees. Heather DeYarmon acquired Item No. 1215 with other miscellaneous tools.
